THE LEGAL AGE OF CONSENT TO SEX IN NIGERIA IS 11 : WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON IT?
A new law has been passed by the Senate House in Nigeria, a law which allows an 11year old child to consent to sex.
Hmmmmmnnnnn. ….I am saddened by this fact, what does an eleven year old child know? Can an eleven year old girl make matured decisions? Is an eleven year old girl matured both emotionally and biologically to deal with the consequences of having sex?
As I think about this new law, I can only remember what I look like as an eleven year old who is very naive and innocent and how much I depended on my parents for directions, guidance and provision. I look at my eleven year old niece and I see how carefree she is, I see the innocence in her eyes, I fear for her naivety and I don’t even want to imagine one sick man taking advantage of her sexually and claiming it was consensual sex.The thought alone is heart-breaking.
For crying out loud, an eleven year old is not even qualified to be called a teenager.
I don’t know what the Senate was thinking when they passed this bill. All I could think about is are there no mothers among them? Where were they when the bill was brought up to it being debated on and the eventual passage into law, where were the fathers? How would they feel if their eleven year old daughters become pregnant, yes we should look at the long term effects, the visible result of having sex is pregnancy afterall.
How does this new law even benefit our country, the Senate should get busy and pass into law a bill to publicly execute all corrupt office holders. They should not kill the future of Nigeria and it’s youths.
This bill is just too ridiculous and I think it should be scrapped. What is your take on it?
